My name is <name> and I am a constituent. I’m writing because I believe that good oral health is essential to good overall health. Yet too many children, families and seniors struggle to access routine dental care. This is particularly true for members of Black, Indigenous and people of color communities, rural communities, and lower-income people.

Poor oral health affects the whole body. Infections caused by cavities and gum disease can impact chronic conditions like diabetes and heart health, as well as stroke and pregnancy. Poor oral health also can impact job opportunities, school attendance, nutrition, self-esteem, military readiness and how others relate to you.

The Legislature has made significant investments in recent sessions and passed bills to increase access to care and prevent dental disease. Please continue this forward momentum so that all Washington residents have an opportunity to enjoy good oral health: support policies to ensure a sufficient and representative oral health workforce; continue to strengthen the Apple Health dental program; and support proven preventive measures like community water fluoridation.
